Dynamic Trio

Dynamic Trio

Just talked to Doug who is leading today for Andy who is taking this Saturday off. Lunch is on the way from St. Paul Lutheran in Ann Arbor. Thank you again for all you do!

To my surprise, Doug reported concrete is indeed scheduled for today at 1:00 (right now), WOW. That is super duper! Kayla will be sending me some pictures, but it will be tomorrow when I’m in Ypsi for church that I stop by and see what happened all day. I’ll update then.

Doug has a good crew of 14 or so today, which is excellent for working concrete. He won’t need that many on concrete, but you really need people when concrete is being poured; it’s a perfect day for it. When it’s really hot and the sun is just beating down, it sets up so quick and you don’t just add water.

Here is one more picture I found from yesterday with a bedroom floor laying team of 3 going at it. Thanks guys!

Friday morning, July 17

What an outstanding crew from Johnson Controls yesterday. Thanks for helping on our 2009 Thrivent Builds home! Attached are pictures at the end of the day and a few pictures of our group from Infor in Ann Arbor who will be working all day today. Infor’s priority tasks are to get more laminate down (throughout the house would be a lot but it could happen) and as flooring is completed in and around doorways then get interior doors installed behind the laminate team. There are also people working outside to complete soffits and George is leading a few folks in forming up the porch. I think all the other concrete forms are done so I expect next week one day concrete will come. Numbers of people are needed for that. Enjoy the pictures from this morning when Infor employees and family who had come along were listening to their instructions for the day.

Thursday, July 16 Review

Hey everyone. I am attaching pictures from the morning and then pictures at the end of the day. Outstanding crew came from Johnson Controls today and worked alongside other volunteers to lay the kitchen and bathroom tile, which are now done and covered with protective paper. The cabinets got moved back into the kitchen, mostly just to get them out of the way of everything else. A good start was made on the laminate flooring, but that is continuing on Friday and probably even into Saturday. Teams of 3 line up on the floor with someone outside cutting the boards to length as needed and then somewhat together the team snaps the pieces into place. A plastic kind of thin foam padding goes on top of the sub-floor, under the laminate before you lay it. A cushion and noise reducing product. A lot of progress was also made on the soffits, which will continue today. Thanks again to Johnson Controls for providing an outstanding crew and for providing lunch for everyone on-site today.

Sat., 7/18 end of day

Update 7/20/09 8:14am: Forgot to mention that the porch concrete forms did not get done so that will be a priority task for this  Thursday I’m sure.

7/19/09: I stopped by after church today and took some pictures of yesterday’s work. More great progress it appears. The luan was laid in the kitchen and bathroom so linoleum can go in next Thursday. Laminate will follow Friday and Saturday I’m sure. Siding is done at rear and on the west side, mostly done on the east side and well underway on the front. I forgot to check and see if the basement egress window was installed or if the plywood was still up. Kitchen cabinets were also unpacked and are ready to go back in place when the kitchen floor is down. That could happen with volunteers next Saturday (maybe)  or Andy and Bill may have them installed. We have a man who makes all our countertops (super cheap) and will install the cabinets himself for no additional money. Sometimes we go that route, sometimes not. Andy will make that call. If they aren’t installed by Saturday, I bet he will have it done by this guy (forget his name – Sorry!)

Enjoy the pictures!

Greetings on Saturday, July 18. I stopped by the site about 10:30am and the downpour had stopped, scaffolding had been set up on both sides of the house and siding was well underway. See pictures of Jim and Adan working with others on either side of the house.

Painting was 100% completed on Friday thanks to John and Mark and others who assisted our professionals (volunteers.) We know that knicks and bumps will happen before the house is done so touch up will be done at the end, but otherwise it looked really good. I did not see luan going down this morning, but I guess that may begin before the end of the day. If not today, then Thursday for sure. I met volunteer Lisa who was pretty lonely cleaning down in the basement this morning all by herself but it was a REALLY BIG  MESS so thanks for taking on the job!

I’ll stop by tomorrow after church and snap a few more pictures to show progress at the end of the day. I’ll post another update early next week reporting on the weekend’s progress and listing priority work for the coming weekend.

Thanks everyone.  I’m having a blast with my first blogging experience. This is just too much fun!

Lynne
